[SATLUG] IPTABLES in soho router

ok I posted a question of where can I read about putting a linux  distro in a soho router. But I did not find anything in those pages that would help me to do what I need to do. Can any one tell me if it's possible and not a hell of complication to put a linux distro in a soho router so I can put my own iptables rules and also I make it a make it a IDS with snorff. Please if anyone know let me know how or where can i read about it??
