Other than the obivous that you already mentioned (cable doesn't seat well)
I would try another PC if one was available. Since you also stated that it
happened before the Linux install, I would also consider the port on the
formatter being bad (the formatter is the board that the cable plugs into
and decides what the page looks like. Kinda like the brain of the whole
outfit) The self-test page prints, which says all the mechanics and high
voltage areas are working.

Just a few places to start looking at...this is right up my alley.

Subject: [SATLUG] Requesting help with a printer problem. (Very new
user.)

Greetings,
Please attempt to solve this printing problem.
I recently had openSUSE 10.2 installed on my computer and the printer is a
Hewlett Packard Laser Jet 6L. It will print out a test page but thereafter,
it only produces blank pages.
The documents to be printed will appear in queue in the Print Jobs For All
Printers-KJob Viewer box. The priority is set at 50. Here is the error
message I am receiving: "Print Error - KJob Viewer There is no default
printer. Start with all to see all printers." I attempted this, but
could not find a way to change the settings. Also, my printer does
appear to be listed as the default printer.
( I visited the CUPS page to verify this.)
Thank you.
P.S.
I recently tried a new cord but this did not help either. Please note that
both cords do not fit flush and the screws do not go in. Also, prior to
installing Linux I also experienced printing problems.
