[SATLUG] Uverse

Ok I must chime in :)

I worked for the company that does U-verse (thats the 'proper' spelling)
Technical Support.

U-verse sucks. Here's how it works.

There are 4 streams coming into a house. Think of it as 4 pieces of yarn.

When you watch HD, 2 of those streams are taken up, leaving you with 2
streams to use.

Here's where it gets interesting. At last count, you can have 4 receivers
in the house MAX. When they're all on, they each use 1 stream. Say you
wanna watch HD, one of the other TV's will be interrupted. So you can only
watch TV on 3 at once.

Now say you wanna record. You're recording one HD show, and watching
something else, that = 3 streams, so 2 of your Set top boxes are OOC until
the recording is finished.

This service is not ready for the prime time. It is still technically in
beta (as of last August, newest update and news from several friends who
still work there have confirmed this as well), and the tech support
consists of resetting the 2wire modem and motorola receivers.

Also remember, each house receives about 56M of bw max. If you're in an
environment where more than 1 tv is on at once, or you are recording
several shows at once, your internet speeds will definately suffer.

Throughout my time doing tech for them, i have never once seen anyone get
the download speeds of the "Pro" package.

Also, if any of you are looking for a generic level 1 tech support job,
the call center is located on Boulverde rd right inside the loop.

Company is called 2wire, they are spamming the fuck out of craigslist
trying to get tech's.

Any questions? Feel free to ask me on or off list. The tech for this
product is actually cool, but it's not ready at all.

Thanks!,
Brian
