I have a friend who got an external drive.  It came formatted as FAT16
with 8.3 filenames.  I reformatted it for her to a NTFS.  I believe that
there is a command that is able to convert the file system to FAT32.  I
don't know why they don't come with NTFS.

But I always suggest that they reformat the drives.
