[SATLUG] CMS Solution

Yeah, I went to opensourcms, that's how I checked drupal out. I
installed wordpress myself on a shared hosting server that I have
http://www.redcricket.net
I remember using XOOPS a long time ago mainly for forums and it was
way too heavy, so I went with PHPbb ( I think that was the name). It
seems now adays, though, that most of the old hard-core CMS's are
being replaced by blogging software. A blog, after all, is just a way
to manage content that is submitted. I consider XOOPS and Drupal
portals more than I would say that they are CMS's. I was shocked at
first to see that wordpress was considered a CMS since I always
thought of it as a blogging platform. After thinking about it for a
while, I kind of realize what happened. In the last few years, many
sites have eschewed the traditional portals or CMS's in favor of
blogging platforms. For the most part, I think that the majority of
sites out there don't need all of the functionality that XOOPS or
Drupal provide. Most sites out there seek to be general information
hubs (which can be done with a blogging platform.) Everyone can
contribute and comment. Blogger is great for this if you just want to
share information. I use blogger as well for some of my blogs. What
I want for my new site, though, is a platform like blogger that offers
the capability to host a forum and an area where users can upload
files and share them for free. I know that it would be easily
possible to just throw a blogging platform up with a forum platform
linked within it, and then some sort of file repository. Essentially,
that's what I'm asking for.
Let me give an example. Let's say that I wanted to start an Ubuntu
site. I wanted to be able to publish content about Ubuntu, provide
forums for users to interact, and finally provide an area for users to
upload screen shots or desktop backgrounds and share them with
everyone. Now I wouldn't do this for Ubuntu since they already have
theirs, but you get the idea. My main concern is the file sharing
aspect. I can easily setup wordpress with a forum plugin, but how
would I setup the file sharing repository? Would I simply upload
submissions to a mySQL database? Is there a service out there that I
can use to handle that for me? I know that if I was the only person
to be submitting "desktop wallpaper", I could just tie a flickr
account in and share them that way, but I wanted something where
everyone could upload and share. I hope I am articulating what I
want. I'm sure someone out there has done something similar. It
boils down to the same three criteria: blogs/content, forum,
fileshare.
Any suggestions?
