I have successfully run Libranet 2.7 on a PII 366 Celeron Laptop with 
128 megs.  I do not see any reason why Debian would not run if you used 
one of the lesser-resource-using window managers like Ice or XFCE or 
afterstep 2.  They are not "cutting edge" but I never had any problem
