If you want to keep costs low, I'd recommend CentOS. It's equivalent to RHEL,
will get updates for years, is very solid, and has plenty of support
available through its own channels and the same channels as RHEL and Fedora.
If you end up having additional needs beyond the base system, you can get new
packages in the form of generic RPMs or by rebuilding RHEL or Fedora Core
RPMs, which can usually rebuild with little or no effort on CentOS. If you
want bleeding-edge security technologies, you might consider Fedora, but it
isn't as thoroughly tested and won't get updates for as long without
requiring a full upgrade.
