Microsoft is a client of Whoppix. Can you believe
that?

I got a friend to download the Whoppix iso for me as I
live in a rural area and didn't want to wait 287
hours.

I'd like to test it out in a lab situation.

[SATLUG] New Security Testing Tool -- Whoppix Inbox

Ooops,

I sent out a message to the XCSSA group about this, and almost forgot
SATLUG.

For you guys on the list who are doing Network Security Testing,
Penetration Testing, and Host Security Testing -- there is a new tool
out there. One that rivals the Knoppix STD release!

Its called Whoppix -- short for "White Hat Knoppix". As you can guess,
its built on Knoppix by a security testing guy in Israel. But instead
of all those Office applications/games/graphics and other desktop type
applications -- its full of security, testing, and penetration tools.

Check out their website at http://www.whoppix.net
<http://www.whoppix.net>. They've even got
some cool on-line demos that show him cracking into a Winblows box and
getting a VNC screen from it. Man, if that doesn't scare the shit out
of every Winblows server admin -- he's either kidding himself or working
for Micro$oft!

Enjoy...

From the recent discussion about Whoppix, I downloaded (at ~600kb/s!
Thanks, RR) the whoppix iso, burned it to a cd, and booted my XP
machine (AMD Athlon Duron 2200+ @ 1.8GHz, w/512MB RAM) with it, and
all was great. Set up the ip address for the nic, the gui was good,
gaim worked flawlessly, etc... all good.

IIRC, it was merely a press of the return button, for the 'default'
settings to boot linux.

I grabbed the CD and slipped it into another machine (PII 350 w/256MG
RAM) and while the machine booted the CD, and loaded the kernel,
Knoppix then reported "Can't Find the Knoppix filesystem"

Are there some optional parameters I'm missing?

for the CD in the kernel/modules that are being loaded. Is there an
option to
try a 2.6.x kernel, such as booting with 'linux26' instead? (Many
Debian-related
distros show the startup options by pressing F1 at the boot: prompt.)

Does that system work with any other live-cd distros, like Ubuntu or Slax?

No idea, Don. Not tried it with anything else.

what is wierd, is that the system(s) (I've tried it on another system,
with the same results) will boot from the CD, so the iso burn was
successful (I already knew that) yet it fails to find the file system
ON the CD it booted from.

figure -that- one out ;-)

Oh, that's quite easy Geoff. You got a problem with the ide-scsi
module and your IDE interface. Try disabling ide-scsi from the Boot:
prompt.

what worked, was failsafe. these were older machines, and it was
probably the ACPI detection that was choking everything.

I'm back in New Orleans... looking for a place to rent.
