Subject: [SATLUG] Learning dns basics

I have been striving to get a BASIC understanding of dns. For example.

What is authortative?
What is a reverse lookup?
Stuff like that

I have been looking on the internet and the best I have found is
http://www.squish.net/dnscheck/records.html

There seems to be several people involved in this whole thing.

my ISP (sbc) provides my fixed IP numbers and they associate the
numerical address with a name like h1.glorypath.com
That name is what get with a host 64.123.93.185

my hosting supplier (surpass.com) lets me use their DNS serves and put
their dns names and numbers into
the guys I bought my word names from

I apologize for not knowing the proper terminology!

You need not go into a long dissertation, you may know a good website
that explains all this stuff in simple basic format

Thanks for any help you can supply,
