<RANT>
You posted this to the list, so I'll respond in kind...
BULLSH**! I work too many hours already with big brother sticking a gun
in my back so he can steal my money. I don't need to be held up for
more money -- they just need to use it more responsibly!!!
You want more money for schools, I like that idea on the surface -- but
first tell me why I'm obligated to pay for my neighbor's kids
education? Why isn't my neighbor paying for his kid's education? And
for that matter, why am I paying for the education of kids that aren't
even citizens of this state/country -- people who don't pay any taxes to
support this state or its schools?
And education is only the camel's nose...
Someone came up with the idea that "I" should be responsible to pay for
other people's medical care. Where is that in the Constitution? Why
should I pay for your lung cancer when you've smoked for 30 years? Why
should I pay for your expensive AIDS care if you aren't bright enough to
wrap that thing before sticking it places? Why should I pay for birth,
and post-natal care for non-citizens dashing across the border to give
birth in Laredo? People who have never paid one dime into the tax
system that supports the "free" public medical system? WHY?
On the surface, I like the idea of more money for schools. But if you
don't have it -- stop handing out so much of MY money to all the crapola
little give-aways. Stop lining 'old-boys' pockets with my tax money.
Stop funding every little welfare system proposed. Stop giving 15
million to Toyota for infrastructure -- let them build their own! Stop
funding Political Action groups with 11 million of MY tax dollars (just
announced today). Stop wasting big $$$ with elected officials who
refuse to do their jobs and even run away from them!
And WHEN you stop funding all those little give-aways -- you'll have
more than sufficient money for the schools. BUT STOP STEALING MORE AND
MORE OF MY MONEY WHEN YOU AREN'T USING WHAT YOU HAVE RESPONSIBLY!!!
</RANT>
Now, I suggest we take this discussion to the -ETC list. That's where
it should have been in the first place.

that is taking a huge hit.

kids use computers and that technology is sensibly integrated into their
everyday education. It was an uphill battle getting the state to fund
Internet connectivity to begin with and now there are moves in the
legislature to take the funding away that lets small to mid-size districts
stay connected.

honesty to raise taxes just enough to get us out of this mess. The Texas
media has totally left us in the dark about just how bad this has been and
believe me this is going to come back to haunt us in the next few
years....Just remember what is going on today in education when there are
massive drops in test scores, more outsourcing to foreign countries for
better educated workers (for those of you who find this to be a sore spot-
many of these foreign worker are not only cheaper, but are better prepared)
and not to mention the inevitable increase in crime.

alienating some) but Texas has simply lost its moral compass on this issue
and no one is listening.
