[SATLUG] ISP that doesn't support Linux

Have you asked your ISP for their Primary DNS IP address? (and the secondary
address, if they use one?) You may want to verify that the
username/password you are supplying the server when trying to make the
connection is correct?

If it's a DNS IP address issue, then read on.... If not, then I apologize
:( but maybe some more info would be nice. :) (For example, can your
computer recognize your modem?)

I had problems connecting w/ AT&T a few years ago and called their tech
support. The guy gave me the DNS IP addresses to use and plugged those into
the accounts section of a ppp connection dialer program (it worked w/ both
the ones that came with Red Hat and Mandrake at the time). The connection
then succeeded. I used the same tactic with a mom and pop ISP outfit near
Marble Falls. Maybe the same with Guadalupe???

I don't know if there is a way to find Guadalupe's DNS IP addresses without
asking them (check the web?). Maybe someone else on this list knows? Or even
has the IP addresses themselves? I think they'd be stored in
/etc/resolv.conf. If you have another computer that has a connection to
Guadalupe and it's windows/apple, then look in the TCP/IP Properties and the
general tab. You should have the DNS addresses listed there.

Just guesses... :)

I am having difficulties connecting to Guadalupe Valley Telephone
Company's dial-up
Internet service. They do not support Linux. Anyone has any tips on
how to make this
work ?
