... and just so it is said, lightning will happily seek out
and blow away the tower mounted hardware with a direct, and
sometimes even a near strike (induced EMF).
Hams have been willing to replace LNA's up the tower at the
drop of a hat for years. An ISP I consult for lost two
802.11b nodes in one storm, even with protective measures in
place. not economic to insure. I had warned about the need
for advance spares ... they have some now.
Feedline losses usually lead one to think of placing a small
computer up the tower. That kind of sacrificial offering
_does_ please the lightning deities -- they will visit often.
