Wine does not require a windows installation for most applications.
the default configuration uses a fake windows directory. depending on your
distribution this might be in /var/lib/wine or /c. i use /home/wine for my own
reasons, but if you are new to Wine best to stick to defaults as close a
possible. anyway, if you want to use a native windows installation then make
sure that it gets mounted in your fstab and then edit your {home}/.wine/config
to point at the directory that the partition will be mounted. for example
/mnt/hda1/ or /c. once again a seperate partition is only required if you want
to use a true winedows installation.
hope that helps more than confuses.

Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of DOS
and danced the skies on Linux silvered wings.
