[SATLUG] terminal width

I want my xterm, kterm, aterm, gnome-terminal, or whatever else to have
a virtual width bigger than the window it's being displayed in. I don't
like my mysql database tables wrapping lines. Anyone know ho to do that?
I don't care which terminal emulator.  Of course, I also would like to
be able to see the data that is hanging out there beyond the window. You
know, like in MS Windows there is a scroll bar along the bottom of the
terminal window. Thanks for the help.
