[SATLUG] OT: SBC and New Wiring or Fiber?

I work in the outside engineering department of SBC and we are
installing fiber all over the place.
The "OC" refers to optical carrier, and as far as multiple OC3's over
copper, all I have ever seen is it being the other way around. You can
fit 3 DS3's (same as T3's, 45 Mbps) over 1 OC3 with room to spare.
We are actually testing OC-768's right now, that's about a 40 Gb
throughput. Whoo hooo!!

I am not aware of SBC installing Fiber anywhere.
The can provide multiple OC3 over copper, you know?

| I have noticed the SBC contractors are marking the easements in my
| neighborhood (Leon Valley) for new wire or fiber. Anyone know if
| this is fiber or what? I am hoping this will bring faster and more
| reliable access.
