What happened to make modules and make modules_install?  Perhaps this is

`rm /boot/System.map'
`rm /boot/vmlinuz'
`cp System.map /boot/System.map'
`cp arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux /boot/vmlinuz'
`lilo'

[error happens here]

Where am I going wrong here, except living dangerously by deleting the
original System.map and vmlinuz?
